After being added to the Sonata lineup in 2011 with the newest generation, the Sonata Hybrid receives significant enhancements to its hybrid electric drivetrain, featuring a more powerful electric motor and greater output battery. A new Limited trim has also been added for 2013.
The Sonata comes as a conventional gasoline-powered sedan (covered in a separate entry) or a hybrid-electric vehicle. Sonata Hybrid is powered by a 2.4-litre Theta II Atkinson-cycle engine working in conjunction with a 8.5 kW Hybrid Starter-Generator, 35 kW electric motor, and 47 kW lithium polymer battery pack. Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission, unlike many other hybrids.
Trim levels on the Sonata Hybrid are base and Limited.

Limited adds power driver's seat, driver's seat lumbar support, auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, HomeLink, panoramic sunroof, and 17-inch hybrid design alloy wheels.
Limited with Technology package adds leather seating, heated rear seats, 9-speaker Infinity audio system, navigation, backup camera, and deluxe door scuff.
